Well it isn't surprising that Viktor was his "happy thought". Viktor had been an inspiration to him for what felt like half of his life and now that he got to share his life with him, it was as if every new day was something out of his dreams. Granted, that also meant that his dreams were frighteningly realistic and somewhat cruel.
Quietly, he'll try to sink back into the sort of thoughts that he had before... Yuuri thinks of the months he has spent with him and all that they've been through. All of the competitions that they've been a part of during his journey to the Grand Prix Final and how they seemed to grow closer after each one.
The warm happiness that emitted from him was not so overpowering but it was a constant warmth. It caused both the snow and the icicles to melt at a reasonable pace. Slowly and surely, they began to melt to the point where it hadn't been nearly as too precarious as they had been. Sure, there was still plenty of snow but not mountains of it. ]
[Not that Ariel realizes who or what Yuuri's particular inspiration is, the more important thing is that it works. Ariel watching with an amazed and curious expression as he makes more progress. It's slow, gradual, but definitely there, as she watches the ice melt.
It's only after he seems to have managed that she makes any noise again since she hadn't wanted to distract him too much. Then is when she claps, grinning as she then raises one of her hands to brush some of her bangs from her face.]
Great! Much better! You're getting the hang of it already!
[ Getting a hang of it would be a gross overestimation of Yuuri's abilities because he has no idea what he's really doing. All he's doing is just thinking about the person who gave him the happiest and warmest memories that he could possibly have thought of. Honestly if he fully grasped that thinking about Viktor was quite literally making the air around him "too hot" and thus melting the snow and ice—he'd probably want to die from mortification.
Good thing he doesn't realize that and instead looks up at the icicles dripping and some of the larger ones falling down in a soft, wet thump from the result of their base being broken down. There's an honest quite awe that over takes him and seeing an opening, Yuuri will unconsciously step out from under the melting snow and ice to marvel what he had done. ]
You made it melt! We can do all sorts with our emotions here. It might take practice, but you'll get used to it. Some can even use it like magic - er, dumanis, they call it here.
[Which Ariel wants to learn herself. Maybe she could have figured helping Yuuri herself or getting someone else to, with the ice, but it seemed like a good chance to get him started to see what he could be capable of with his emotions here.
Still, Ariel gives a smile, clapping her hands together as she watches the drips of the icicles and admires the melted snow around him before he moves.]
Yuuri plays back the word in his mind as he looks at the melting snow and ice. It sounds pretty cool and something that could be useful however—he's not too sure if that's something he wants to get really involved with as stupid (or silly) as it sounds. It would be something useful here, of course, but should he really be spending time learning something like that?
He doesn't know for sure but he'll smile back at Ariel, a bit sheepishly. ]
I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it, honestly. That's kind of amazing that just thinking about something made that happen.
It is! I don't think emotions could do all this back home. Or with the amulets. I guess it was the same back home for you too. I know it's a lot to take in, but I'm sure you'll probably figure things quicker than I did.
[Being human and all already kind of gives him a leg up in comparison. It is a lot to ask in getting everyone involved in things here, being here not necessarily of their will. But even so, Ariel is trying to make the most of it.
She only mentioned the dumanis in case he might want to try it later, but that's up to him, if and when he might be ready.]
You seem to have a lot of faith in me to get all of this rather quickly.
[ He doesn't mean to imply anything negative about her faith in him, but it's kind of weird given how they had just met and she didn't know much of anything about him. Well, that could be true of people who crossed Yuuri's path, too... ]
Honestly, if I do get better at this, it'll be because I want to make sure I don't cause anyone any kind of trouble with my emotions.
Everyone can with enough practice. And everyone will understand that you're new to it at least. So it's fine!
[She tries still to reassure him. For all that he's new and she's just meeting him now. Ariel can't help but be positive, most of the time, and try to show her adoration and admiration for humans.]
I might not believe that it's everyone but, certainly seems like you do.
[ Even if there wasn't anything to really assure him of, it's well received and Yuuri can't help but smile a little. She was definitely a good person...mermaid. Someone to remember here, for sure. ]
I don't think I've introduced myself—I'm Yuuri Katsuki. Thank you for helping me back there even if I technically did all of the work.
[She looks both sheepish and excited all at once, in realizing this had kind of delayed the introductions with her wanting to help him out initially and all. She waves a hand from side to side as if to tell him not to worry about it.]
It's alright. I needed more help than that when I first got here. Besides, you won't figure the emotions unless you practice.
[ He'll give her a bit of a bow out of habit. Yuuri wouldn't have known what kind of names were normal for mermaids but "Ariel" sounded pretty normal for even his standards. It's a nice name for a sweet girl. ]
I guess you're right. Practice using my emotions so that I don't bother others with their effect... It seems a little weird, but it does make sense.
[ It's also something he plans to try to practice in privacy than out where others could see the reactions. ]
Well, I'm sure you'll get the hang of it! For yourself too. So you feel safer and more comfortable with it, I mean. Not just for not bothering anyone else. That's important too! I mean, it's not like we can actually control our emotions, they just sort of happen, but you can try get better in learning the different effects, yeah.
[Because it shouldn't just be about him being worried over everyone else. That's motivation, sure, but it should also be for Yuuri himself to feel more confident about this.]
[ Listening to her explain herself, Yuuri knows that there's nothing wrong with what she says. It's all solid advice and things that he will take to heart because he's not the kind of person who won't listen to advice given to him. Or, well, depending on the kind of advice. ]
All very true and good points to make.
[ He'll chuckle softly and give his head a shake. ]
It's still funny to me—purposefully making myself feel something strong enough to see what happens around me.
I know. It'll take practice to get used to, but you will! Just be careful when you practice.
[Because the consequences of their emotions can vary, to say the least. But she's trying to be supportive and give what advice she can, for all that she's been here a few months in comparison to others.]
Anything I should keep in mind when I try practicing?
[ He'd make sure to secure Makkachin somewhere self before trying any extreme emotions. ...whatever those might be. Anger was obviously going to be one of those, but there had to be others. Fear? ]
Ah, depending on how the emotions manifest, anger or fear, those sort of emotions might be....a little more dangerous in comparison to happier ones like just now?
[Probably something kind of obvious or that most would likely guess for themselves but. He did ask.]
Yeah. Just to be safe. I'm just glad I was able to help and you're okay after that, really.
[Which is clearly the important thing. Informing the newbies and keeping them safe, or as safe as possible with the consequences of emotions sometimes around here.]
