[ It's a good thing that Yuuri's pocketed a bit of money and won't mind paying for all of it. He was here to listen to her after all. However... ]

I run every morning and do exercises whenever I can.

[ What goes unsaid is the fact that he can still gain weight pretty easily despite all of that. Look, not everyone is gifted with a body and a metabolism that can allow someone to eat whatever they please. ]

[ maybe he's just started his diet? this guy isn't a twink. or maybe he has a really nice body and he just looks normal because of his clothes.

oh well! weiss won't judge. ]

That's good to hear. I only started doing morning exercises recently.

Just recently? [ If Yuuri was worst person, he'd be jealous but he isn't. ] I guess with all of the training you'd do to be a Huntress you wouldn't have to work out normally.

[ Unless she did?? Honestly the whole concept is both something he can wrap his mind around and can't. ]

I bet it's kind of weird.

[schmisse]

I got complacent!

[ she's balled her hands into fists and waves them around in frustration, but none of it is directed at yuuri. ]

I'm going to get back to my usual routine now, though.

[ It's clearly not directed at him but he can understand it all the same. Admittedly he wouldn't go about showing the same way though. ]

Well, if you're looking for a work-out partner, I'd be interested in seeing what a Huntress does to keep in shape.

[ And probably not get involved with whatever that entails. He doesn't need to kill monsters, just needs to be able to skate at his best. ]

I could bring Makkachin as well.

[ Note to self, always bring up dogs with Weiss to get on her good side. Though shame he can't do more with it given the fact that, they met here for a different kind of conversation.

One which Yuuri has no idea how to start. ]

...so. [ CLEARLY NO IDEA HOW TO START THIS. ] Uh.

[schmisse]

[ it's not like there's an easy way to start the intended topic of this conversation, but weiss understands that yuuri wants to get it over with. she looks uneasy for a good few seconds, until her crepe and drink arrive, and she flashes a small smile at the server before he leaves. ]

Where do I even begin? [ a beat. ] My father is not... a very loving man.

[giniro]

[ It's not that he wants to get it over with, but he can see them avoiding the topic for as long as possible, which defeats the whole purpose of this. Either way, he's glad that Weiss dove head first into it. ]

That's a good place to start. [ There's a bit of a pause as he recalls what he knows so far about Weiss. ] I'm guessing he was strict because you were the one who was going to take up the family business?

[ Something like that wouldn't have been uncommon, right? ]

[schmisse]

He was strict because of that, and also because of the Schnee family name.

[ she gingerly slices a small piece of crepe, but before putting it in her mouth, she continues: ]

I'm not sure what it's like where you're from, but we're known all throughout Remnant as the biggest supplier of Dust. We have so many connections because of it, and a reputation.

[ she stops there, hoping he understands what it's like when your family is constantly in the spotlight. ]

[giniro]

Well, I've learned that it's considerably a lot more peaceful than other worlds that I've heard of. [ No monsters, no lurking darkness threatening the safety of others... ] However, I can understand that little. Back where Viktor and I are from—we're both kind of famous. Viktor far more than I am...

[ He doesn't elaborate because he's not here to talk about how great Viktor is. Maybe another time, though. ]

Everything we do is scrutinized by the media and judged by the public. I'm even considered the pride of my hometown.

[ There's a self-depreciating laugh that escapes him. As if there was anything for them to be proud of... Yeah, it's nothing like what Weiss has to endure, he's sure, but given the stress this already causes him— ]

It must have been rough being under all of that attention since birth.

[schmisse]

[ she has to fight a laugh when yuuri mentions that he's the pride of his hometown, but she laugh wins in the end. in an attempt to stop herself from laughing some more, though, she bites her lower lip. it's a struggle and she looks kind of goofy, but it manages to work after a while.

i'm so sorry. ]

[ THANK WEISS???

Though honestly, he doesn't mind that she's laughing at him because, well, there were worse things that she could have reacted. And even if her laughter causes him to shrink a bit in his seat and hang his head some, he likes this much more than having to comfort someone who was upset with him. ]

Trust me—it's not glamours and is kind of embarrassing. They have posters of me everywhere.

[ And his parents totally capitalize on it but that's not going to be brought up. ]

[schmisse]

That's actually kind of cute. [ the whole situation and all. ] But I can see why that would be embarrassing.

[ she smiles softly before picking up her drink and taking a sip. ]

My father's done so many things, though. Things that I'm not proud of, and if they were publicised, it would ruin the name that my grandfather built. Having to keep these secrets is eating me alive.

[giniro]

[ Well, it was nice to have a little break in the sober mood that quickly returns. He doesn't press for what those things are but— ]

Shouldn't people have the right to know? [ His response is instantaneous and made without too much thought. But the weight of his words eventually does catch up to him and he looks away a bit ashamed. He should know better than to say something that presumptuous. ]

I'm sure it's a lot more complicated than just that, but if it gets out later from some source that isn't you or someone in your family...won't it be even more troublesome?

[schmisse]

As one of the most powerful men in all of Remnant, how do you think my father takes care of these kinds of scandals?

[ she doesn't carry a heavy burden for nothing. the schnees are pure on the outside--white and serene--but they're dark and bitter on the inside. ]

[giniro]

I imagine he'd try to eliminate the source of whatever the scandal is and cover it up.

[ Yuuri's not completely unaware of how the world can work, but it doesn't change how he sees things. ]

But, doing that to his own daughter would be kind of extreme.

[ Extremely cruel too. ]

[schmisse]

It would be. [ she can't see her own father trying to kill her, but he'd still very enraged. ]

I embarrassed him in front of all the nobles in Atlas. He shut me in my room after that.

[ as she continues to slice her crepe, her movements get bigger and less steady. ]

I wasn't allowed to leave or talk to anybody outside the family and the staff.

[giniro]

I guess that's one way to silence someone too.

[ They can't make a fuss if they're not seen nor heard after all. ]

Did you manage to get out? Escape all that, I mean.

[ Because if he figures anything about Weiss, it's that there was no way she'd take it lying down. She seemed to be prim and proper but also have this rebellious streak in her. ]

[schmisse]

I... ran away.

[ she sets aside her cutlery for now, and places her hands together. ]

I threw away my family for freedom. Which, I suppose is a good thing because I'm not bound by anything anymore. But it's still terrifying.

[ it's all said as she's looking at her twidling thumbs. but she meets yuuri's gaze slowly, anxious to see what he might think or say about all this. ]

That's impressive.

[ This would explain the change in behavior from when Yuuri first met Weiss and how she was now. Running away from her family and leaving it all behind... Something like that wouldn't have been an easy task. Sure someone else might have seen it as an act of cowardice but she wasn't running way to escape responsibility. ]

It couldn't have been easy but...what do you plan to do now? [ He's not judging her or anything but just curious. She was bound to have a plan...maybe? ] Running away isn't going to solve the problem.

[schmisse]

My sister, Winter... I'm going to look for her, because she's the only one who would be on my side.

[ her words are delivered with some hesitation, but weiss' eyes are filled with determination and hope when she speaks of her sister. she trusts her sister more than anything in the world. ]

She was supposed to be the heiress to the Schnee Dust Company, but she didn't want to take over the family business. She joined the military instead, and our father hated it.

[giniro]

[ Good. It is just like he thought; Weiss had a plan of what she wanted to do and needed to do once she escaped. He was kind of proud of her in a way even though he didn't have any reason to be. ]

She sounds like someone who would be a strong ally against your father. Um, if it came down to that sort of thing.

[ Because if there's anything that he took from history class, it was that those with military strength generally got a lot more "accomplished" than those who didn't have it. Not that Yuuri is suggesting or condoning such a tactic. ]

I'm also assuming that your sister also knows about what all your father's done then, as well?

[schmisse]

She does.

[ it's not like her father's sins are a huge secret. they're known within the family, and some other people might even know of them, too. qrow branwen, for instance. weiss doesn't know that qrow knows, though. ]

My father's relationship with Winter is strained. There was a huge fight between then when Winter said she abdicated the title of the heiress to go to combat school, instead. He kind of just stopped talking to her and even blamed the general of our army for stealing my sister.

It happened a few years ago, I wasn't even a teenager then. And it made growing up a lot more difficult when Winter left.

[giniro]

I'm sure it did. [ Not that he could relate but he could at least understand, from everything he's learned about Weiss, how something like that would have made things worse for her. All of the responsibility falling onto her shoulders as well as probably the strain between family members and her sister... ]

At least, she's someone who you don't need extra convincing and will help you as soon as you find her. I'm glad to hear that you have someone in your family who can turn to.

[ He means this in the best way possible, of course. ]
