[ For a moment Yuuri searches his person and eventually pulls out what looks to be an oddly shaped (matryoshka doll) pendant from his pocket. Yuuri hadn't realized the importance of it when he suddenly appeared here with it, but he figured that it was best to hang onto it nevertheless.
Yeah, yeah, that! Don't lose it. It'll be your way of contactin' people here.
Plus, if you go without a crystal like that for two weeks, you'll probably drop dead from the emotions gettin' sucked outta you.
[Just. So he knows.]
The other nice thing about these crystals is, if you concentrate on sendin' a message to someone else, they'll actually be able to hear your thoughts. And of course, other people can do the same to you! Your crystal will warm up a little when there's a message waitin' for you. If you don't concentrate on anyone in particular, you can even send your thoughts to everyone!
[ That does sound frighteningly convenient...it also sounds kind of invasive in regards the latter about sending a thought to everyone. Invasive and a disaster waiting to happen given how some people and how jumbled their thoughts could end up being...
Or really in case Yuuri has a bad freak out and ruins things for everyone. ]
Is there anything to prevent accidentally sending messages to people?
Dunamis trainin’ can help with that, seein’ as it’s a way to restrain your emotions ‘til you need to bring them out full force… Naturally, bein’ able to clear your mind instead of getting’ eaten up by emotions is a big part of that, too.
[Still, his grin softens a bit.]
But most people don’t pick up on that too quickly. You might wanna be ready to accidentally leak some thoughts here and there. You won’t be the first.
[ If this "pep talk" was supposed to give Yuuri some comfort then it totally fails. Well, it was nice to know that he wouldn't be one of the first but at the same time the fact that accidents happen at all worries him.
...maybe he'll just avoid using that method of communication period. ]
I, I see. I'll be sure to prepare myself for that then.
[ Prepare himself by avoiding it entirely. Seems like the best plan. ]
Besides bein' super convenient, your crystal protects you.
[He tugs on the chain of his own, presumably a pendant on the end of a necklace. "Presumably," because he doesn't actually pull it out from under his coat.]
You see how your emotions manifest in the world with all those effects, yeah? That's 'cause the world is absorbin' your emotions for itself. Seems this whole place got real drained sometime in the past. But as long as you have your crystal on you, it acts as a buffer so it doesn't suck you dry, see?
[ This went from a place that was affected by other people's emotions to a place that would suck him dry of all of his emotions should he lose the pendant that he was given. That's...kind of important and nice to know.
While it isn't exactly nefarious it does put everything in a different light for Yuuri. ]
No one has lost their crystal before, have they?
[ Not that Yuuri plans on losing his at all. He's going to keep it on him for more than one reason. Absolutely. ]
[Surprisingly(?) he still doesn't seem all that concerned for the apparent gravity of the topic.]
...I wanna say no, but knowin' some of the people here...
[There's... definitely no way he could guarantee that.]
If you lose it though, no need to panic! You can catch an airship over to the temple - just tell the guys at the dock that you need a new crystal, they'll get it. Our crystals fill up with 'emotion drops' over time anyway, so we've gotta swap 'em out for new ones every once in a while.
Whether it's 'cause you lose it or 'cause it fills up, the place where Otherworlders get their new crystals is in the temple ruins. People ought to be able to direct you at the temple itself if you ask.
[ And with that gently acknowledged, Yuuri's going to force himself forward onto the lighter, better, topic of learning how these amulets get filled and that they were given new ones in exchange. It's interesting. ]
Does anything special happen after you fill them up?
[ Yuuri kind of wants to know how long it might take to fill one up too but he leaves that for later depending on how he answers. ]
Is there any kind of benefit for having multiple ones?
That one depends on what you wanna use it for. Those crystals hold a lotta power packed into ‘em from all the emotion drops they’ve collected over time. If you know how, you can even use them to boost your dunamis if you need to.
Most people give ‘em to the arehtei, though. They seem to appreciate it, and it seems it nets you a vision of home if you do… But I can’t say what it’s like, seein’ as I’ve kept all mine.
[ Honestly, the only part of what he said that mattered to Yuuri was how he mentioned visions of home. Does that mean it could help them get home too? ]
I see.
[ You know, despite their rough patch in the beginning, he actually has been pretty helpful. ]

A crystal?

Guess he wasn't wrong in that thinking. ]

[These things happen.]
Just make sure you keep the crystal on you all the time anyway. Dyin' is a much worse fate than gettin' embarrassed over a stray thought.

Though none of that matters as Hizumi drops a bigger bomb on him that stops Yuuri cold in his tracks. ]
Dying? [ Just a matter of speech, maybe? ]
What do you mean "dying"?

Well, it wouldn't be real fair to just leave you to the wolves. Besides that, you'll be able to check out the rest on your own anyway.
[He points. Up ahead is a building that's helpfully labeled 'Welcome Centre' according to the sign out front.]
Ta-daaah.
